[SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

Hi all,

First of all excuse my English if it's too bad big_smile

So I'm a French Arch user, and i've installed Wombat with kde 3.4 without problems.

Before, when I disconnected from kde (from my user account), I had three options : close the session, reboot or shutdown. But since today I have only one option : close the session :!:

How can I restore these options :?:

I've done a search without success so if somebody have an answer, he/she is welcome.

Thank you.

Re: [SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

skadub, do you login to KDE via kdm (login manager) or by console login and typing startx?

Re: [SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

Hi,

IIRC the problem is solved by following the [URL=http://wiki2.archlinux.org/index.php/User%20can%20shutdown%20or%20reboot]Wiki[/URL]
As far as I remember, there was a thread about how to graphically logoff from xfce, maybe you can find the topic.
But I'd try the Wiki first (it's about reboot/shutdown permissions)

Re: [SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

So, i've tried what you say bauerber, ie follow the Wiki but this doesn't solve my problem.

I also test with the root account and it's the same thing, only the "end session" button sad

Re: [SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

I don't have an answer, but I do have the same problem! see my posts here yesterday:

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … &start=135

You will see that I do not have the problem in the root account or in a new test user account.

Re: [SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

If it works for a new user, move your ~/.kderc and ~/.kde to another location and relogin.  KDE will created new versions of these files/directory and it will probably work.  Then, you can compare the new and old ~/.kderc and ~/.kde to figure out what was causing this error.

Re: [SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

No, it didn't work - as I explained in my original post in the other thread, I had already tried regenerating .kde.  I have also now tried moving .kderc.  This one actually didn't regenerate itself but I cannot detect any difference in my KDE setup and certainly the logout behaviour is unaffected.  Also tried replacing .kderc with the one from my working temp user account but again no discernible difference.

Re: [SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

Same for me, under root, under my user account and under a newly created accout.

Like dauphin I try to generate new .kde and .kderc but there's nothing to do.

I'm just curious: have you enabled the following settings: Control Center -> KDE Components -> Session Manager -> Offer shutdown options

-tARIX

Re: [SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

I have finally solved this issue here, although I suspect it will not work for you, skadub, as all your accounts are affected whereas only my regular user account had the problem.
Anyway, for what it is worth, I tracked it down to my .bash_profile, where at some time I had added:

export DISPLAY=localhost:0

After deleting this line, the logout options are back to normal.
I hope you also find a solution before too long. wink

Ok I will have a look at this.

I also have DISPLAY set to localhost:0 to open X applications under root terminal from my user account.

Thank you dauphin smile

Re: [SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

Great, thank you very much dauphin.

I've deleted the line "export DISPLAY=localhost:0" from .bashrc and it solves the problem.

Out of curiosity... why don't you use:

# as normal user

$ xhost +localhost
$ sudo XappToBeRunnedAsRoot

Re: [SOLVED][KDE] reboot/shutdown

IceRAM, thanks but that's already done wink

Instead of DISPLAY var, I've put xhost +localhost in my .bashrc.
