I recently configured my desktop with Arch x86_64 and was ecstatic to find that my sound card digital out is now supported and working with my Denon head unit. The fglrx driver has also come a long way since I tried it a year and a half ago or so.
However I'm getting terrible tearing in kwin and in video playback. I've set Vsync enabled in every option I know that is available. amdcccle, system settings, and tried enabling using:
sudo aticonfig --sync-video=onHere are my other aticonfig settings for configuring xorg and fixing the black artifacts in firefox:
sudo aticonfig --initial --adapter=all
sudo aticonfig --set-pcs-str=DDX,ForceXAA,TRUE

community/mplayer-vaapi 31774-1-----------I installed vaapi afer testing the normal mplayer, results were the same. In fact it doesn't even work when I select vaapi in Smplayer preferences. I've tried most of the renderers here.
extra/smplayer 0.6.9-2I get tearing when moving a window in KDE or fluxbox as well. I haven't tried compiz yet....I prefer kwin as my window manager anyhow, though I'm going to install compiz to test.
Any tips or documentation that I can read? I've read the ATI Catalyst wiki thoroughly. Many thanks in advance.
EDIT: Let me know if there is any other system info that you need to assess my situation. Here is the output of:

I want to make sure that Crossfire is enabled for games, and I've noticed a line mentioning a Device section being missing for PCI:4:0:0 and PCI:3:0:1 (the latter being my ATI HDMI out).
