Is it assumed that gettext is installed before installing from AUR?

A lot of packages fail to mention gettext in the makedepends array. But the AUR guidelines say that it is assumed that base-devel is installed, which does not include gettext.

Am I missing something?

Any specific packages which fail to build due to lack of gettext? I have gettext installed here required by 4 packages, but yes it doesn't seem to be in base-devel.

Well, it is in base which is usually assumed to be installed.  But it is one of those packages that people tend to think they do not need and remove so specifying it in makedepends is not a bad thing.

IIRC I was equally surprised you need tar and file.
