[somehow solved] Static noise with Soundblaster Live

Hi there,

I have a strange behaviour with my SB Live under arch64. I run ALSA as sound system.
When I play games, watch movies or listen to MP3s the static noise is not audible but
as soon as nothing is played back I can clearly hear the typical static / electronic noise you
often can hear produced from the electronic components within your system. I have turned off
(muted) pretty much every source in my mixer but still can here the static noises. It is not
really a problem but somewhat disturbing. Esp. since under WinXP on the same system this
problem does not exist.

Any ideas on this ?

Thanx,
D$

See audio quality howto - try e.g. no-hlt.

Edit: And try disabling any other CPU power-saving modes you might have. Having the CPU flit between them, causes interference.

Re: [somehow solved] Static noise with Soundblaster Live

OK, I played around with the various solutions described on the webpage and in the end I've exchange my SB Live against another sound card I had lying around (CMedia 7.1). The sound didn't fully vanish but is a lot more silent than previously with my SB Live. None of the solutions described worked for me. So I guess that an external soundcard would be the best solution. Since I am out of money the new internal card must do it.

Why I had no sound issues under WinXP but under arch64, or Linux more specificially still goes over my head !
