How did those files got into your system? Were they installed via pacman or did you install them manually?

via pacman.... I installed kde via pacman -S kde-meta
I know from reading that it is usually caused by installing from a site specifically but I use pacman everytime.

should I try reinstalling meta and see if that fixes it?? and when I check what has ownership of the file I get:

wierd I see that when I update it isnt trying to update: kdebase-workspace
when I checked the package database its there for 4.5

It looks like those files were changed from kdebase-workspace to kdeartwork-wallpapers. Hence the conflict. I removed kdeartwork-wallpapers and now it's upgrading.

Not sure why it jokes on this, as the files should not be part of kdeartwork-wallpapers:

Maybe your mirror has not synched completely yet? You could check manually if it already has the new kdebase-workspace.
Apart from all that, you could just hold back kdeartwork-wallpapers for now and update the rest.

Try running pacman -Ss kde-meta. It seems the kde-meta-* packages have not been updated and are still with the 4.4-3 version.

you are correct seems its not synched completely yet. I checked the mirror and it still only has the package: kdebase-workspace-4.4.5-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
tried using reflector to pull up a new mirror list and that was an epic fail........ then wanted me to go back to 4.4.5 and remove all of 4.5 lol
