Anyone know how to get iPods recognized in iTunes (wine) ?

I'd like to get iTunes working with my iPod so that I can fix my broken ipod by reformatting it or fixing the firmware, etc. Anyone know how?

Re: Anyone know how to get iPods recognized in iTunes (wine) ?

It's not going to happen any time soon. iTunes uses a kernel-level driver in Windows to communicate with the iPod. There is no replacement for that driver that works with Wine as far as I know and Wine would have to be able to load Windows drivers for the current system to work correctly.

You can try ReactOS if you are feeling brave; they have a Wine-ish userland but have written a custom clone of the Windows kernel, complete with the ability to load drivers. The intention is to provide a completely free Windows alternative. It is still in early alpha, so I'd be pretty surprised if this worked.

Your other choices are:
a) use Linux solutions that communicate with your iPod
b) use VirtualBox or some other virtual machine software and forward the USB port (this is very easy in VirtualBox, don't know about others); there is a pretty good chance it will work, but I am not 100% sure.
c) use a real Windows or Mac install to hook your iPod up to iTunes.
