Well, I ran pacman -Syu today and now my installation is broken. I can't boot into the system because I get a kernel panic.
I have an Ubuntu install as well, so I've tried to chroot into the archlinux installation from there and reinstall the kernel which was updated by the -Syu before.
I get lots of these types error messages:
# pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/kernel26-2.6.35.3-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
everything works up to:
:: Generating module dependencies
Unrecognized file format '/bin/busybox /lib/initcpio/busybox 0 0' line 15
Unrecognized dir format '/lib/libc.so.6 /lib/libc-2.12.1.so 0 0' line 16

...
I tried googling, people suggested to run mkinicpio -p kernel26 manually which didn't help; the same messages appear. Another strange thing is that at the end, the script reports ==> SUCCESS, which is why I overlooked the error at first (argh).
I also tried to "upgrade" with pacman -U to the older kernel, but the same sort of messages appear.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
P.S.
Please ask for any more info.

Thanks, but I already tried all the suggestions there; I don't have colorwrapper installed...

Well, for anybody getting here through Google, I've given up, after trying to fix this for two days and also asking on IRC, nothing helped, so I made a clean install.
Also, I reported the mkinitcpio bug here:
