Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

[multilib] is 32-bit apps built to work with 64-bit Arch. They're being moved out of [community] so that the 3 main and 1 extra repos (testing, core, extra, community) are purely 64-bit for 64-bit Arch, and purely 32-bit for 32-bit Arch (let's ignore grub for now).

The next release of pacman may (or may not) have [multilib] added to pacman.conf. You could just add it in manually, check the wiki for instructions.

Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

really cool, avoids some AUR packages. but I didn't get it right, how to deal with the new multilib repo. I have nspluginwrapper and skype installed from AUR. as well as some lib32 packages from community. Now what? just add the multilib repo and fire an upgrade and all will be fine?

Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

for nspluginwrapper and flash i suggest to remove them before update. then install flashplugin from multilib repo and it would work out of the box

Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

well I added the repository before core/extra/community entries in pacman.conf and now I can install/upgrade packages with multilib packages, should I do any other thing to use multilib packages without any problem?

Btw skype needs lib32-v4l-utils for video support but there is not the packages.

Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

I see some bugs, but I don't know which FS project to report them under:

- (edit: I see this is now taken care of) flashplugin should depend on lib32-libxdamage. nspluginwrapper cannot create/install the "fake" plugin without it and the plugin will not load if lib32-libxdamage is removed afterwards.

- lib32-glibc does not have ldd32. Is there another way to accomplish what that used to do?

Other than those minor issues, this is great! Very much appreciated.

They rm'ed all the binaries in PKGBUILD.  IMHO, they should keep some useful binaries like 'ldd' and install it as 'ldd32'.

Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

glibc's ldd will be patched to be multilib-compatible. In the meantime, you can do it yourself. Check the wine PKGBUILD for the sed command needed.

On a new account spotify seems to work, so the problem may be in my ~/.wine

I remember to have modified wine's registry to enable antialiasing... but I'm not sure if that is related to the problem

[EDIT] I reinstaled it and now seems to work...

Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

Is it possible that firefox crashes with the flashplugin provided in the multilib repo? It does for me...

Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

@heftig  No errors, just needed to restart the browser.  I use Chromium.  Firefox works too.  64 bit, obviously tongue

Can skype-oss and bin32-skype-oss be merged or put into the repo?  The source is not available from skype anymore, but I have the file on my mediafire account.

Source: http://download929.mediafire.com/drjayx … ss.tar.bz2

PKGBUILD from AUR: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18312

It works with OSSv4.

Edit:
Woohoo!  I just saw what was done with bringing in flashplugin, nspluginwrapper AND libflashsupport with OSS support.  Nice!!  I love you guys (don't throw water bottle please)

Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

Great work guys. This was something that has been needed since Arch 64 first came out. This makes installing flash, wine, and skype so much easier now. No more digging around in AUR trying to find packages.

Keep up the great work guys! Hope this repo gets enabled by default in pacman.conf for new and old users can get flash and wine installed from the beginning!

Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

I am really surprised. Great Job.
I am eagerly waiting for the packages picasa, google-earth and jre (for applet support in 64bit firefox) in multilib.
Thank you very much big_smile

If you read the mailing list thread on this, its highly unlikely for various reasons that any of the mentioned packages will be brought in.

Re: multilib repository: Feedback & Notification Thread

Do I have to install gcc-multilib, binutils-multilib and libtool-multilib as stated in the wiki to use the lib32-* packages in [multilib]? I suppose no, but thought it would be better to ask.

Edit: Since many lib32 packaegs depend on gcc-libs-multilib and because gcc relies on gcc-libs (obviously) it seems that the packages are indeed needed. Thanks for your effort in bringing a sane multilib system for Arch!
