Arch Cycle Jersey

I've been obsessing over this for the past couple of days. I've looked at quite a few places that do custom jerseys, but most of them require a minimum order that is too high for me. Also, this rough sketch uses The Linux Foundation logo, which I can't find as a vector. I don't even know if the printers would accept SVG files. Ah well.

Re: Arch Cycle Jersey

Noice!

I'd order one if they were available.  Would the back be empty, or were you thinking of putting something there too?

Re: Arch Cycle Jersey

Really nice work.

Some printers do accept .svg files.  I dealt with one two days ago, and more are adding them to their "accepted file format" lists.  I've been using Inkscape and sending out .eps files for years, without complaint from any supplier/vendor/whatever.  Many even take high-res .jpgs or .pngs

Re: Arch Cycle Jersey

Would Arch linux be sponsoring any racers anytime soon? ;-)

I'd be interested, but I don't know... The design is truly awesome, but do I want to feel geeky on the bike too??

EDIT: Also: Who will be the maker (brand) of the jersey? Usually they have to put their logos somewhere on the jersey too

Re: Arch Cycle Jersey

Depending on the cost of the jersey and the shipping, I'd be willing to buy one too.

If I could make a suggestion, it would be to change the (dull) grey into stronger 'colors' like black and/or white?

Shipping depends heavily on where you are.  Voler custom jerseys are around $75-80 once you start hit orders that are big enough for group discounts.  I can't remember what their minimum order is though.

Re: Arch Cycle Jersey

Chokkan: these guys can do semi-custom minimum order of only 10 jerseys, and a full custom minimum order of only 24. If we tried hard enough I bet we could easily get 25 just from the forum here ??

Re: Arch Cycle Jersey

What a great response guys!
imag1narynumber - That's good to know, maybe I'll just send SVG files and see what they say. I assume illustrator can open them without problem?

I don't mind changing the grey on the sides, collar, and in the word 'arch' to black. I didn't have a good idea as to what to put on the back. I thought another 'A' would be overkill. In another iteration, I had the Da Vinci quote about simplicity.

rugebiker - Yeah, all cycle jerseys do, I think. They're great for stuffing all sorts of things into.

kcirick - Yes the maker usually puts their own logo on the jersey. It usually doesn't affect the look too much. A lot of places will do matching bib shorts too. smile

I think the main problem would be that we are spread all over the world (I'm in Japan), and obviously are reluctant to fork over cash to someone we've never met. Feel free to copy/alter the design as you like if you think you can get this up and running closer to home. The place where I got the template has a minimum of 5 orders.

How about an Arch Taco on the back?  Or perhaps "Allan Probably Broke It"?  There are lots of Archer memes that have come up over the years.  Look at the Arch Schwag website for ideas...I suppose you could ask Dusty (in charge of Arch Schwag) if he could take care of the business bit handling?  It couldn't hurt to ask if he'd mind hosting the cycling kit through his web store.

EDIT:  I sent an email to Dusty with a link to this thread.

I prefer to have the blank back than any of the catch phrase/mascots (yes, another arch on the back would be an overkill). It keeps the KISS philosophy of the Arch

Also, I kind of like the gray. Maybe we need a poll ;-)

Re: Arch Cycle Jersey

Yeah I'm not keen on having anything on the back either. I think white would look better against the logo on the side.

Any change to have it shiped to europa?

And I'd prefer an empty back too...

You can certainly go that route.  Just be extra-certain to get proofs. ;-)

I assume most places still use Illustrator, unfortunately.  I've gone to completely using Inkscape for vector work.  And yes, I've never heard anyone having an issue.  Photoshop can also open .eps files via rastering them.

Re: Arch Cycle Jersey

I've found a place here that has a 3 order minimum, but the jerseys will be 15,000YEN each. Seems quite expensive to me (not sure where all of you are in regards to exchange rates). Add shipping to that and we're getting into a very convoluted process sad

Re: Arch Cycle Jersey

15000Yen approx = $150CAN = $120USD = 120 Euro? Is that about right?

It does seem pretty expensive for a cycling jersey (unless if this price include a bib shorts? I doubt it).

It is pricey.

Custom jerseys can be had cheaper with a larger minimum order.

Re: Arch Cycle Jersey

so I would go for a larger minimum-order in order to dump the price :-)

Catch being is that then we would have to wait for enough people to sign on...as usually the way these things work is that an order is paid for up front, and then shipped to someone who deals them out to customers.

Be patient.  I've done custom orders before with groups, and they usually end up taking 6 months from money being completely received to being on your doorstep.

It actually sounds like very reasonable pricing.

BTW, jerseys are cheaper and easier to produce.
