:: Configuring System Clock [FAIL]

Few days ago this task started failing at boot. I didn't touch anything so I don't know what it could be, may be a system update? This is a very strange thing because no matter I change "localtime" to "UTC" in rc.conf I have this fail message when booting.
I parsed rc.sysinit in search for clues but everything seems ok. Also, I booted from a fresh ISO and there's no problem there -discarded a hardware issue-, so the glitch in my system maybe is somewhat related to a recent upgrade/update.
Any idea? I'm burning my head trying to find out what's happening here but haven't any clue on what to do, where start looking or what start looking for.

Ideas will be very welcomed :S

Re: :: Configuring System Clock [FAIL]

Do you know what task or program is trying to configure the system clock?

Are you on a dual-boot system?  If so, have you booted windows lately?

Re: :: Configuring System Clock [FAIL]

Hi Proof,

This happen at boot at the first syncing of system clock - there are two syncs at boot time, the first (this thats' failing) for udev events and the later for /var logs and general system use. I have W7 -hate it but need it for work- and SysRescCD for backup and recovery purposes and I've been using them both since a long time, so I really don't think that's related with this issue...
Thanks anyway...

Re: :: Configuring System Clock [FAIL]

I don't know enough about udev to know how it configures the system clock.  Sorry.

I asked about dual boot because sometimes Windows can put strange locks on the hardware.  Like, some problems only appear after people have booted in Windows.

Hopefully, someone else will have the answer to your problem!

Re: :: Configuring System Clock [FAIL]

What is your TIMEZONE variable set to in rc.conf, and is it set to a timezone in /usr/share/zoneinfo.

You might also try reinstalling the package tzdata

Re: :: Configuring System Clock [FAIL]

I always set my hardware clock in the BIOS and set my system to use the that time. Much less hassle.

Re: :: Configuring System Clock [FAIL]

Yeah, I do the same, but the strange thing here is that task at the beginning of Arch load, failing!

I repeat, didn't touch anything, just common updates (pacman -Syu) and I discard a HW problem because the ISO boots okay :S

Re: :: Configuring System Clock [FAIL]

Could you post your /var/log/pacman.log so we can see what exactly was updated?

Glad to do anything I can to help. smile

I believe it's a problem with the initscripts:

[2010-07-11 19:29] upgraded initscripts (2010.06-2 -> 2010.07-1)

Could anyone else confirm this?

Hi Brad! Just let you know I reinstalled Arch and now everything's working as it should be, it wasn't that bad after all ; ).
Actually, I'm glad with the whole situation: now I have a fresh KDE SC system with Awesome running over it's framework.

Later!
-Martín
