With desktop effects enable all is ok, but with effects disabled I have some garbage left behind when drag a opened window on the screen.
EDIT:
SOLVED itself after pacman -Syu & restart (I have [testing] repo enabled)

Vi0L0 wrote:agapito wrote:I´ve tested with free driver and still have this problem. So is not catalyst related, i think is a kde4/qt problem.
Another reason why kde 4.5 is bad ;P
I am pretty sure i had this bug with old kde versions but before i had 8 gigs of ram and i didn't pay attention. With gnome-desktop i don't remember that Xorg high memory use.
Well i can confirm there's a problem with kde 4.5, at least with opengl renderer. I didn't test it with open source drivers cuz i believe your words.
<sigh>... X>600MB after just 3hours of working .
I'll put my eyes on this and if it'll eat my tasty memory again - i guess ill switch back to 4.4.5

Hi, I have problem with catalyst. With version 10.7 I have problem with colors in firefox(and others browsers - like opera and other) and in 10.8 is like in 10.7. In version 10.6 this problem doesnt exist. Problem is in some .jpg but not all. Colors are converse - blue:pink, grey:dark blue. I have Mobility Radeon HD 5430.

With 10.8 :
-VLC (1.1.3, xvideo xcb output) : switching to fullscreen freezes everything (even the magic key doesn't work)
-Powerplay does not seem to work very well, even with the most conservative settings, the fan speed is too high (compared to 10.7 and 10.6).
-And even with Firefox 4, still got those frakking black/grey boxes...
I'm gonna switch to radeon as soon as Mesa 7.9 arrives...

Is anybody else noticing that 10.8 broke va-api? I had it working with 10.7 before the reboot.
I tried reinstalling libva and xvba-video as per the instructions in the catalyst install scriptlet. mplayer -vo vaapi:gl results in a crash:

Plain old mplayer -vo vaapi works, but the display is FUBAR.

The following still works for me with catalyst 10.8:
mplayer -va vaapi -vo vaapi:gl myvideo.avi

@mwc:
edit: re-install mplayer-vaapi also
plus re-login after reinstalling libva, xvba-video and mplayer-vaapi
and i believe it's good idea to:
- kill X/DM
- rm /etc/ati/amdpcsdb
- start X/DM
otherwise old 10.7 amdpcsdb will be used, and as i can see new amdpcsdb is much different

I'm not sure what caused the issue, but I noticed that ALL opengl apps were failing due to bad GLX requests. I logged out and back in and it's working again.

Now I have the playback problem as well. I'm trying a 1080p video and video lags significantly compared to audio. mplayer output says "Your computer is too SLOW to play this!" This didn't happen with 10.7.
VLC lags as well. I've tried removing the ATI db file, no luck. I've also rebuilt libva, xvba-video, catalyst, mplayer-vaapi to no avail.

hello,

I don't really have the time to read every topics so can you just tell me in a few words which tweaks and what special config do you have ??

Hi there,
I never had any (or at least that much) problems with catalyst but version 10.8 gives me a headache.
The whole desktop is too small after switching to X, meaning login or powersaving. There are pesty little grey borders between the actual desktop and the edge of my monitor.
I had the same problem with windows, it can be solved with setting "Overscan" to 0% in amdcccle.
However the version 10.8 seems to be too damn stupid to remember this. When I start up amdcccle it shows that the setting is indeed at 0% but it does not apply until I move the slider a little bit.
Did somebody have a similar problem or does know of a aticonfig/xorg.conf setting I can use?
I have a hd5770.
Thanks a lot!

I had same issue. It managed it with changing settings in amdcccle using "sudo amdcccle".

Yep, that's what I do.
'sudo amdcccle' -> Overscan/Underscan to 0%
But I need to do it everytime I login. Thats my problem.

wow, looks like this 10.8 really got lots of bugs...
Maybe try to enable/disable ATi 2d, or maybe it's a problem with some composition effect.
check also 'dmesg | grep fgl' and 'vainfo'
You all seem to have really good performance with kde 4.5 and catalyst 10.8 but I don't. Xorg uses a lot of my cpu as soon as I move a window.
I don't really have the time to read every topics so can you just tell me in a few words which tweaks and what special config do you have ??
Disable blur effect
I've the same problem than McFlow (previous page). I've the same Xorg.log, xorg.conf and here is the dmesg log (if it can help...):
So, like McFlow, I reinstalled catalyst 10.5. It worked a time, and now I've this error message:
(My graphic card is detected as a Mobility Radeon HD 3650, but I've a Mobility FireGL v5700).[ 24.594] [atiddxSetup] X version mismatch - detected X.org 7.1.1.902, required X.org 7.5.1.0
That's because you aren't using version patched xorg-server. Use one of those: dcc24's one or mine. Note in PKGBUILD of mine: if using catalyst < 10.6 then uncomment patching in lines 56 & 57
Since you are using fireGL card why not to use firepro driver? Lately i wrote some pkgbuild for newest one: http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/tarball … 3.3.tar.gz
Yep, that's what I do.
'sudo amdcccle' -> Overscan/Underscan to 0%

are xorg.conf /etc/ati/amdpcsdb changed in any way after 'sudo amdcccle'? If yes - then maybe those changes just aren't 'saved'? i dunno if 'chmod a-w' after 'sudo amdcccle' on those files will help - cuz if i remember correctly amdpcsdb can be overwritten anyhow by the system... so maybe 'cp amdpcsdb amdpcsdb.default' after 'sudo amdcccle'
violo, you should have a look at this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=816790
Thank you, i'll update all asap

How do I re-enable 2D AA once it was disabled with aticonfig?
Edit: Figured it out. I've removed the ati db and rebooted. Now 2DAA works.
Edit2: The vaapi problem is fixed with 2DAA as well. Yet I still have corruption with Firefox.

Thanks Vi0L0, your patched xorg-server work.

With vsync glxgears gives 30 instead of 60 fps. Games with vsync do not run smooth. Without vsync it works normally. Can anyone reproduce?
edit: since catalyst 10.8 I mean. Before it worked normally too.

same for me :
[gillian@myhost ~]$ glxgears with vsync
1642 frames in 5.0 seconds = 328.219 FPS
1601 frames in 5.0 seconds = 319.964 FPS
[gillian@myhost ~]$ glxgears without vsync
5321 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1064.177 FPS
5498 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1099.502 FPS
5431 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1084.532 FPS
