one thing wich is pertubing me since i installed arch. I have a german-keys laptop here. I dont use the kyboard of it. I use an external keyboard via USB wich has 1 key more thanthe laptop-one. I have KEYMAP="br-abtn2" in mt rc.conf but it fails on boot, I think because the laptop doesn't haave the 105 keys necceseries. How can I solve tis please? every time i need a "?" i need to copy it from my browser lol, it's anoying

You could try $ setxkbmap <xkb_layout>, test what's working, because there also are variants for br-abnt2 (br-abnt, br-latin1-abnt2, br-latin1-us)
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … otplugging
Once you've found which layout suits you, modify your xorg.conf and /etc/rc.conf with the appropriate layout settings.
You should have two Input Device in your xorg.conf and set the USB keyboard to be the default one.

i've allready tried hotplugging and xorg.conf. it seams that there is no way to aplie diferent keymaps for diferent keyboards at the same time? and as the german keyboard has less keys ABTN2 can't be applied to it.

Could you post the output of your xorg.conf related to your keyboards?
And are you ever using the German keyboard or can it be disable? (may be someone else in your place uses the German keymapping?).

You will find the list of all possible models, variants and options for keyboards in /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/basic.lst

Are you sure it is a problem about the german laptop keyboard?
I had similar issue, but for my default laptop keybord, adding: Option "XkbLayout" "br" at my Xorg configuration solves it.

You should try vae77 suggestion about "br"; this problem about the ? symbol not being recognized with br-abnt2 does seem to be quite old: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/47 … FBA0110A4C
Searches for "teclado" in the Portuguese Arch Wiki might help you: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php?tit … lado&go=Go

thanks, I didn't search directly for the "/" / "?" issue. I read a lot in brasilian pages. many have the problem and many havn't. for some XkbLayout resolves for some not. For me it doesn't.
I don't use xorg.conf but I tested all possibilities in terminal
also I tested all possibiliteis with udev / KDE-systemsettings
I give it up: found out I can use AltGr+w for the "?"
PS: will remain [unsolved] though - so if someone knows a solution.....

If you don't use xorg.conf, the file you have to add xkbLayout is /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf. If you haven't tried it yet.

yea, I know....I read all the wikis. But man, the comand does not work for me in terminal....so it wont in any xorg configuration, too. (in fact, it works - all keys are correct, all WORKING keys.)
