DVD has no sound

When I try to watch DVDs with totem or mplayer, there is no sound.  I've been able to play DVDs fine in Ubuntu in totem and vlc.   When I try to play DVDs with vlc on Arch, I get no video.  Is there a way to play DVDs easily?
