I have tried getting urxvt to be really transparent with absolutely no luck.
I have tried each of the three options in the manpage, which do nothing. The fourth option, to use xcompmgr is not a real solution, as I only want the terminal to be transparent, not the entire window and titlebar.
urxvt -tr only produce psedo transparency, and trying to use ARGB just gives a blue screen.
I thought the problem was fluxbox since it did not support 32bit color, but I have tried under openbox and pekwm as well.
So, if you have urxvt working with real transparency, and not the titlebar but just the terminal part being transparent, how did you do this?

I have used xcompmgr with openbox.
When you start xcompmgr remember to check right parameters for it.
xcompmgr --help
Give depth 32 for urxvt.
Then change alfa value of RGBA.

Make sure you have compositing enabled (xcompmgr) for example and put something like this in your .Xdefaults:
urxvt*background:rgba:2000/2000/2000/cccc
The "cccc" takes care of the transparency, But like I said you need compositing for this to work!

rxvt-unicode-afterimage and xcompmgr-dana 20091025-3 work for me on openbox.
