midi usb drum kit

I am using a guitar hero world tour drum kit with midi connecton. I purchased a midi to usb cable. I have my midi out plugged into the midi in on the drum kit. When I run 'aconnect -i' I get

client 0: 'System' [type=kernel]
    0 'Timer           '
    1 'Announce        '
client 14: 'Midi Through' [type=kernel]
    0 'Midi Through Port-0'
client 20: 'VIEWCON..' [type=kernel]
    0 'VIEWCON.. MIDI 1'

The VIEWCON entry is the drum kit. I have tried using joy2key and I have no js0 device. Hydrogen does not seem to recognize any midi input. I would appreciate any input or suggestions on how to get this to work. I am not sure what comes in between 'the midi connection is recognized to the computer' and 'using hydrogen to assign sounds to the different pads'. Thanks in advance.

I also have the GH:WT drum kit (for PS3). It works for me just by plugging in the USB dongle that came with it - no MIDI needed.

I think that's the problem, I have GH:WT for wii and it uses the wiimote so I do not have a usb dongle. It's great for the game but since I don't have bluetooth on my computers I'm not sure I have a way to connect it.

Are you using jack? Check in the hydrogen settings. There should be an option under midi to select the input. The input should be your 'Midi Through Port-0'

I'll give that a try. I'm not sure if the GH:WT set is intended for midi output. The label says in but I know that with keyboards the midi in and out doesn't always match what is written on the cords. Unfortunately I don't have a keyboard to test this theory.

Now I'm confused. What exactly are you trying to do with this thing?

I know there's a Windows program to adjust the sensitivity of the kit via MIDI, maybe you should try that to see if it is a cable problem

There is a midi port on the drum set and I am trying to plug it into my computer so I can play the drums. I though midi was the way to do that since there is no usb cord. Now I am confused as to whether the set will output through the midi jack or if I have to find another way to connect it to my computer such as bluetooth through the wiimote.

No, but it's official. Try the GH:WT website, or google for drum sensitivity issues
