kvm-intel refuses to load, "disabled by bios"

I try to modprobe kvm-intel but modprobe doesn't let me. It says that the operation not supported. dmesg shows that kvm says "kvm: disabled by bios". I have checked by BIOS and KVM is not disabled. It has not been disabled for years.

I have had this issue before, but it seemed to automatically resolve itself, but now I've noticed that it is occurring again. I have an eVGA 112-CK-NF68 mainboard running the P33 BIOS.

If anyone knows any workarounds for the BIOS check (because the BIOS is misreporting), that would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: kvm-intel refuses to load, "disabled by bios"

I disabled this check by commenting out the error in kvm/x86.c. It resulted in a hard lock when I tried to start a VM, as one might expect. tongue
