Folks,
I find Dolphin 4.5.1 rather laggy when doing any actions with files. For example if I right-click on any file there is a high chance I'll have to wait about ten secs or even more (an eternity) until actions menu pops-up, same when cicking files until they're opened in chosen applications and so on. It's only when I've been working for some time in the same directory everything seems to work ok - fluent as ever, at least with 4.4.5
Anyone else suffering this?

i had that problem. deleting the config files and disabling compositing helped.

Yeah, same here -- it's a little laggy. Not 10 seconds, though. I love the look of KDE 4.5 with the transparent oxygen stuff, but It is no match for Gnome in speed.

Depends on your hardware. Works fine here. Had to adjust my CPU throttling a bit because KDE seems to want a bit more CPU for some compositing operations.

I don't think it's compositing and such related because everything allways worked ok here (quadcore 2.66, 4gbRAM, 1gbATI 5750hd, vsync disabled)
However I think I discovered what's been happening:
In my case the lag only happens when Show tooltip feature is enabled (my system is in spanish, take a look at attached screenshot)
Said that, I didn't have any lag problem in previous 4.4.5 edition.
Please check this and I will submit a bug at KDE's bugzilla, to turn this off go to Preferences->Dolphin configuration->General
Regards,
-Martín
EDIT: I didn't saw lucke's post. Following his url you can read at the end: "In 4.5.1 i face problems with dolphin like when i have tooltips enabled and hover over a pdf or image file, i need to wait 10 to show tooltip with preview. Thats really bad."

I can confirm that dolphin becomes gradually slower with tooltips enabled. A newly started Dolphin works as expected but soon it gets really slow on showing the tooltips which affects the whole Dolphin's performance. Please post a bug report and let us know here about it.

It's a dbus-core issue. Try dbus-core-mt from AUR. If it uninstalls dbus, reinstall it (a PKGBUILD problem, it shouldn't do it).
The arch devs are checking if they are gonna try a dbus 1.3 update or use this patched dbus-core package.

I usually likes to stick to stock kernel, stock apps and stock everything to avoid fidling with my -production- system and (probably) render it unstable. However in this case flamelab's solution rocks.
Anyone suffering this issue with Dolphin or any other KDE SC 4.5.1 application should first uninstall dbus-core (with pacman -Rd) and then install from AUR dbus-core-mt (works great).
Pacman will complain it can't delete dbus group, just ignore that, it's allright. In the event dbus group is deleted, just create it again and add your user to it.
Tyvm flamelab!
*UPDATE*: tooltips may be fixed but still Dolphin's buggy. When I closed the running kmplayer then click on another Dilbert episode, I still had to wait several seconds before it's lanched.

dbus-core from [testing] also solves this. Well done

Probably this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=232054
Sometimes the same lag occurs when starting Kwrite or when navigating the KDE menu.

Thanks Vamp898, but although being a GTK+ app, Bleachbit is way better, just like CClean for Window$
