Recent pacman -Sc causes no boot start(fixed re-installed kde4.5)

Backup HDD fails to reach grub stage after pacman -Sc.

Hangs before grub starts...cannot run fallback nor default.

Examined grub from another boot device and find it to be normal grub menu.

This post is similar to my other post in that it fails after pacman -Sc on a similar archlinux installed system(same version copied across with dd) and operating well for months before this occurence.

No other indicators were encountered.

Performed a chroot into the HDD with install flsh drive.

Removed kde.

Re-installed kde.  Enabled root log-in in kdmrc.

Rebooted and reached desktop in kde4.

Discovered no kde konsole with error message as follows:

/usr/share/applications/kde-4Konsole.desktop does not exist.

What can be done to provide the missing file?

Maybe just copy it over?

Edit: would that be /usr/share/applications/kde4/konsole.desktop from kdebase-konsole?

FYI pacman -Sc removes package tarballs from pacman's package cache - nothing more, nothing less. Your issues were caused by something else.

+1

lilsirecho, maybe you have aliased 'pacman -Sc' to something?

Re: Recent pacman -Sc causes no boot start(fixed re-installed kde4.5)

Solved my problem.

Used console log-in and startX.

Removed kde with pacman.

Reinstalled kde4.5 with pacman.

Evidently the original -Syu was not complete.  It was over 500MB.

It begs the question :  how many packages are needed by my system to be upgraded correctly?  The present download system trusts that the mirror is downloading the right required packages.

This download error happened twice on two hdd's.  Performed at different times.

The error produced two different responses, both now fixed.

It underlines the axiom that no system operates perfectly even in linux.

At least we don't have the BSOD in Linux, the display we know and love so much!!
