dv1394 Camera useable but not to be found

Hi guys!

I'm new to arch linux, and i really like it.
I need to create a http stream from a dv-camera using vlc.
The camera itself works perfectly, i can use it with dvgrab, kino and kdenlive, but cant find the device itself.
in the output of all these programms there was no sign of the path to the devicefile.
It just is not in the /dev/ folder.

"lspci | grep 1394" output:

03:01.4 FireWire (IEEE 1394): O2 Micro, Inc. Firewire (IEEE 1394) (rev 02)

"dmesg | grep 1394" output:

firewire_core: IRM is not 1394a compliant, making local node (ffc0) root.

it doesnt even look like the kernel modules have been loaded.
because "lsmod | grep 1394" doesnt have any output

hope you can help me

Re: dv1394 Camera useable but not to be found

Under VLC, Are you using:

Media -> Open Capture Device : opens the Media Device Dialog on the Capture Device tab
Select capture mode pull down to Video for Linux 2
Video device and Audio device both blank.
and then the Play to close the dialog ???

If all goes well, you should have video.

On my system, the camera shows up as /dev/video0, but I never use the device node with using V4L2

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'v4l2://'. Check the log for details.
