Crash

Well, my computer crashes...
When it crashes xmms just stops, i can still move my mouse and click on things, after a while (about one minute) i cant click things anymoore.
usually I go to the terminal (If i stay in icewm it will stop and not let me change to the terminal) and do ctrl+c on x but it takes very long for it to shutdown.
after it has shutdown the computer almost seems fine (very slow) but when pressing tab or sometimes when pressing the back button(name?) the computer starts beeping, Its one long beep that lasts about five seconds.
When trying to shutdown it is also very slow.

ps. Hello everybody smile

Re: Crash

Does it "crash" when xmms is not running?

Re: Crash

open a terminal with "top" or "htop" running and let it sit next to xmms.... i'm assuming some process on your computer is taking all the cpu and/or mem...

are you playing some odd files through xmms?

and about different music players - there's about 30 of them.... amarok, beep, etc

What are the last things that changed just before this started to happen? (See also /var/log/*).

Re: Crash

If RAM is ok try running some harddisk tests (smartmontools from staging).
Did you move your computer ? Maybe you need to open it and check pci cards and cables too.
Also "overloading" alsa by for example playing many sounds at the same time can produce similar freezing effects (in the current alsa version at least).
