Dear Archers
I installed only 'GNOME'. changed the inittab file, booted into gnome. I do not find the terminal/console. I have to load gnome-extra and many other stuff. Without terminal, My hands are tied. Pl. help me to get the terminal / console log-in, or tell me fow to get at the /etc/inittab file, so that I can boot into id3, instead of id5
Thanks to hokash and all of you

You can switch to another tty with ctrl-alt-Fx. Or use xterm, it gets installed with xorg group.

Earlier, I tried to switch to another tty with ctrl+alt+Fx. Blank screen appears. No login prompt
I have not tried xterm. will try and report.
Thanks to all of you on these forums, I am able to dual boot and solve my problems

If x = 1-6 you should see a prompt. If you don't, you may have misconfigured something or you have a video driver problem.

ctrl+alt+f1, pacman -S gnome-terminal
with this occasion i would add gnome-terminal in gnome group

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

and one more way: press "e" on grub screen to edit the entry and add "single" (or 1) to the kernel line to boot into single user mode

Many thanks. Your suggestion to use the "xterm' was helpful. First loaded terminal.
Mine is a Dial-up connection. Terribly slow
Earlier, pacman used to download from where it left, in case of interruption. But now, it says "resuming of download ...pkg not possible, starting over" and begins from first.
Evolution is around 25MB. When 95% download was completed, it said startng over.
Have to change to broadband. (No telephone land line, without which broadband is not possible here)
Thank you all
