Lord of the Rings Online: Now free to play:

Here are some links for anyone interested in investigating the topic, they are a great start at least:

http://email.lotro.com/hostedemail/emai … 4EF8D3115D

To play the game on a distro (or OS X, for that matter) you need some help. I suggest that you look beyond the initial impression that a first glance of the Wine site provides:

Wine:

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p … n&iId=4891

That link gives you a start anyway, there is certainly more help that will make itself available with a quick search. smile

Or:

Crossover Games:

Had a certain thread not existed in the UF, we may very well have not been able to play this Windows game on any distro or on OS X. As it stands now, it plays superbly:

Via the above linked thread, the efforts of a handful of people who have worked tirelessly for the community; ultimately garnering voluntary assistance from a nameless LOTRO developer. Which made the playing of this game outside of the MS sphere not only possible, but gold star standard for both the distros & OS X.

A fine example indeed.

I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.
I'm over it!
