[SOLVED] KDE 4.5.1 crash after downgrading from x86_64 to i686

Hello everyone,

I moved from x86_64 to i686 by following the instructions at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Swi … i686_HOWTO. The transition was ok and things seemed to work except KDE apps stopped working. I usually start KDE via KDM. Now, the splash screen of KDE comes up and within a couple of seconds it crashes leaving me in the KDM screen again.

Then I used startx to start kde and this is the error that I get:

startkde: Starting up...
Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)
kded(3316): Communication problem with "kded" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown" : " "The name org.kde.kded was not provided by any .service files" "

<unknown program name>(3314)/ KStartupInfo::createNewStartupId: creating:  "lpt-partha;1283929510;515532;3314_TIME0" : "unnamed app"
startkde: Shutting down...
klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
unset SSH_AUTH_SOCK;
unset SSH_AGENT_PID;
echo Agent pid 3291 killed;
startkde: Done.

I created a new user and that user can login to the KDE desktop without any problem. After this as the normal user, I moved all the files in my $HOME to $HOME/backup and tried to login to KDE again but it failed with same message.

However, the problematic user can still start and login to icewm/e17. When I try to start konqueror from icewm, I get "Floating point exception" and for dolphin:

<unknown program name>(3494)/: Communication problem with "dolphin" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown" : " "The name org.kde.dolphin was not provided by any .service files" "

I can start using a new user for everything, but the user that has this problem, has a lot of scripts/configurations that I have been using for a while. So, I'd really like to continue using that user. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

There may be more files to delete than those in your home directory: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 51#p810651
