A/V skipping since upgrading to nvidia 256.53-1 and 2.6.35.4-1 kernel

My sound and video have started skipping (buffer underrun?) since upgrading to the 256.53-1 nvidia drivers, which coincides with the 2.6.35.4-1 kernel upgrade. When the update occurred I also installed several other packages relating to sound and video:

x264 (20100722-1 -> 20100826-1)
ffmpeg (24460-2 -> 24953-1)
gstreamer0.10-ugly (0.10.15-2 -> 0.10.15-4)
gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins (0.10.15-2 -> 0.10.15-4)

I tried rolling all of these back, as well as booting with my fallback kernel, but none remedied the issue. Sound/video skips for ~1 second every ~5 seconds on Youtube videos, Spotify and VLC for both video and music - it doesn't seem to coincide with any particular event, such as higher CPU usage. I've yet to test media formats individually, nor have I rolled back Nvidia drivers (I've tried but had kernel compat problems that I didn't have time to fix).

Nothing related appears in dmesg, but I seem to get more related stuff from startx's stdout. I'll edit again with a paste - in the meantime can anyone suggest some logs to check out the might shed some light on the issue?

Edit: Scratch that, nothing is on stdout, but it appears the entire system is hanging, not just the sound and audio. I think I'm experiencing this bug.

Edit2: I was definitely experiencing this bug. Anyone else with the problem, check this topic and try booting your kernel image with the parameter 'nohz=off' until a patch is released - it worked for me.
