Hi, I've been having some difficulties mounting my two 500GB hard drives. If I leave the drives connected before booting and then try mounting them, the stdin and stdout are stuck and there's no way of terminating this process, but SIGKILL, even SIGHUP signal doesn't end the mount process. Although if I try replugging them, everything works. I'm actually trying to figure out if this behavior is common amongst other distributions, I'll start with ubuntu. I'm wondering, couldn't it be kernel's problem? And also, why hasn't there been any updates for like 3 months? Core, extra and community stays the same for a suspicious time. Thank you for your answers.

No updates of what? Pick an up-to-date server https://www.archlinux.de/?page=MirrorStatus or check the versions

sure will do. No updates, I mean if I run "sudo pacman -Syu" it says my system is up to date for like a quarter of a year...

I've had dozens of updates in the last months so you need to check your mirrors :-)

Yeah, as it turns out, my old repo ftp://sh.cvut.cz/ does not work anymore. or at least hasn't been updated... I've picked out one from belarus and works like a charm... thanks, It was starting to look kinda suspicious ![]()

Next time do a check after a week w/o updates, don't wait months. '-Syu' after a long time can be painful.

Yeah, I know... my mistake...
Those updates aren't complete yet, so I can't tell whether it helped with my HDD issues or not... but giving that device-mapper is being updates also, I'm giving big hopes on this one

You may want to mark this topic as solved and start a new one if you have problems with mounting.
'One problem - one topic' is a good policy, please stick to it in the future.
You can of course link to other topics you think are relevant.

Sorry the topic got changed... I wanted to solve my mounting issues at first. I am well aware of this policy. It was supposed to be just a bonus question, not entire new topic...

I can't help you with the mounting problem, so I decided to tackle the 'no updates' issue, but if someone is looking for help with similar mounting problems and he has to read through many posts that have nothing to do with the topic, he will get the impression that the forums are not well maintained.
BTW, you can change '[Solved] Hard drive mount' to ''[Solved] no updates in months' :-)
