Slow Gnome/Compiz/Emerald startup

Hi there,

Starting X during the boot process takes some time between first seeing the cursor and finally being usable. I am starting gdm in runlevel 5 and then use autologin to fire up my profile. Compiz/Emerald load fine, but something's delaying the startup.

I did some profiling with bootchartd, where you can see that X comes up after 16 seconds and is usable at ~55 seconds, a long time.

boortchartd profile

Xorg is basically running without an xorg.conf, just some minor tweaks in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d.
Xorg.0.log looks like this:

Re: Slow Gnome/Compiz/Emerald startup

It could be related to these long discussions.

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/16818
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=634824

and an article in the Wiki:
