I want to use conky, so how do I enable double buffer extension in xorg 1.8? Thanks.

Maybe you need to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdbe.so.
grep dbe /var/log/Xorg.0.log
On my xorg 1.8 it seems it gets loaded by default.

What worked? That grep command only checks if it gets loaded, it looks like this on my computer:
[karol@black ~]$ grep dbe /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) LoadModule: "dbe"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libdbe.so
(II) Module dbe: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
It doesn't change anything, dbe should work out of the box. Are you having any problems with it?
