i added this to rc.lua:
awful.key({ }, "Print", function () awful.util.spawn("scrot -b -e 'notify-send \"PrintScreen\" \"$f saved.\" && mv $f ~/Screenshots'") end),

Some fun with Echinus WM. I quite like the DWM-like concept, and it avoids compiling and recompiling the wm, as a command allow you to reload echinus when config file is changed.
Also pleased to see that a visual config editor exists (http://github.com/polachok).
For now my setup results as this :
Now time to create a bar for general informations. --> if someone knows the best solution, let me know.

install notification-daemon, but you should know that notify-send it's a part of the libnotify package.

Quite happy with the dzen config for now. It's really, really hard getting all
things to align perfectly at all times though. The bit showing the latest TV
episode should be aligned to the LEFT, but meh.
Hi, guess that's irssi not weechat? Would you share your theme then? Didn't find it in your git repo..

Switched from i3 to ratpoison this morning, Can't say I've been more impressed with a wm, rp's a keeper
How come you switched from i3? Cause of some features?

I am also not impressed that you moved away from i3!
But... Whatever floats your boat, I guess.
I too am curious what features of Ratpoison you liked that wasn't in i3.

No real definitive reason, Using i3 I was mainly chopshopping other people config's here and there to acheive what I wanted, I wanted a WM that I could set up and configure myself, which is easy enough in ratpoison Really enjoyed my time with i3 though, would recommend it to anyone wanting a tiling-wm that isn't too trivial too navigate (some people including myself have a hard time getting used to a keyboard-only controlled wm, but now I have the hang of it I feel right at home!)

damn i thought i had enough paranoid addons installed... i'm going to look into some of these
and that's just what i use for firefox. anyway, hope you find something useful there. cheers
@Jebus_, no problem, i'm glad to hear it! also, ratpoison is pretty nice. was one of my top picks as far as sweet simplicity for a window-manager. not so much a fan of all the frills some of these other have to offer. although i can say too much since i use stumpwm now (but it's only as frilly as you make it). i might even git pull my old ratpoison config into the home dir for old time's sake. kinda miss it

@milomouse; mind sharing that ratpoisonrc? Always interested in what other people use and to improve my own setup Am I right in thinking stumpwm is essentially rp but written in common Lisp?

it's in my signature. nothing special, i haven't looked at it in a while. here's a direct link though: http://github.com/milomouse/dotfiles/bl … atpoisonrc And yeah, stumpwm is basically the same thing as ratpoison but way more extensible and, as you mentioned, written in common lisp so it's not a binary like ratpoison and is reloadable in real-time, etc. if you ever get comfortable with ratpoison you may want to give stumpwm a try if you're looking for something with 'smarter' window placement/handling (e.g. movie scaling [mplayer, vlc, totem] and window-based rules), yada yada. easier to use than to describe as it can be basically anything you want. cheers!
