Colour management matters at all stages of your workflow and it can be expensive to set up (calibrating equipment properly) but there is a good guide to setting up colour profiles for your printer here: http://jcornuz.wordpress.com/2007/12/06 … anagement/ (his other articles are a good too). If you need more detailed info on ICC support in linux see here: http://freedesktop.org/wiki/OpenIcc .
FYI - I don't have a specfic need for colour management so I don't use it at the moment.
P.S. Photoprint is supposed to be quite good at for printing with proper ICC support: http://blackfiveimaging.co.uk/index.php … PhotoPrint - they have worked closely with the gutenprint devs.
