Using a Dell 640m, wireless connections are absurdly slow (6-12 Kbps down). The connection also keeps dropping every 5-10 minutes.
I installed XP to test, and everything runs fine, with stable connections and no speed problems. (in fact, using http://www.speedtest.net/, I get 3.75Mbps download).
I've been using arch for a while now, and my laptop was windows-free for the past 2 years. This problem has only occured within the past 2-3 months. I'm at my wit's end for solving it.
The wireless card is an intel 3945ABG. And the network is WEP (not my choice!).
I connect as follows:
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 essid ${ESSID} key ${KEY}
dhcpcd wlan0
Has anyone experienced the same problem? What could be causing something like this?
EDIT: I seem to get the same problem when I use a ubuntu live cd. The wireless works, but the speed is ridiculously slow compared to using windows. What could be causing this problem?
PS: would I be better off posting this to Networking?

In case anyone was wondering, this is solved by using ndiswrapper and the dell drivers.
