[Arch 64 bit] Powernow-k8 not loading at boot, loads fine afterwards

I get the same error.

Has anyone solved it?

Don't post on old threads, newer kernel packages have been released and it works just fine, you are doing something wrong.

Re: [Arch 64 bit] Powernow-k8 not loading at boot, loads fine afterwards

The problem is that the original thread wasn't specific to start with, no kernel version was specified and since 2 months ago new kernel packages (and others) have been released. Another poster also said to experience this after some packages were updated but didn't say which packages were updated.

The reason why no one has been able to even provide a clue to what's wrong is because of the vagueness of the problem, it's like saying my computer doesn't work, please help.

You need to say which kernel version you are using, if it worked before and if so with which kernel version, if some other update broke it, if it works when trying to load it manually and provide your rc.conf.

If you search the forum and the bugtracker you will not find much about anyone else having this problem so you need to provide some info that people can use to try to figure what the problem is.

Re: [Arch 64 bit] Powernow-k8 not loading at boot, loads fine afterwards

Okey.

On my Subnotebook it is a fresh Installation. Its all up to date with Kernel 2.6.35 on 64bit.

When i try to load 'acpi-cpufreq' manualy, this message will be shown: "FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.35-ARCH/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko): Device or resource busy"

When i load 'powernow-k8', it loads. wink

But on boot, both show an error message, unfortunately the boot is to fast to read the message.

Where can i check the error messages i get on boot? I didn't find the message in '/var/log/*'?

You're not really offering a solution, just bumping a topic and saying 'hey me too!'. That's not really gonna help the person who started this topic.

If you showed us your rc.conf contents, maybe we could help you. 64 bit problems belong in the 64 bit subforum as well.

i have the same problems with 'acpi-cpufreq' and there is all up to date, too.

Re: [Arch 64 bit] Powernow-k8 not loading at boot, loads fine afterwards

There is something strange in your MODULES line, why do you blacklist a bunch of modules and right after that you want to explicitly load them? It doesn't make sense and I have no idea if this can cause any problems, you either want to load the modules explicitly or blacklist them not the 2 things at the same time.

You are also loading a bunch of modules that will most probably get autoloaded (all the sound stuff).

Another thing is that I would only try to load modules that work, acpi-cpufreq and powernow-k8 can't be used at the same time so why bother trying to load something that can't possibly work? That way you may miss new error messages (you always get error/warning messages so its easy to miss a new one).

To debug any problems comment that MODULES line and add another one with _only_ the module that is not loading (first check that you can modprobe it manually), nothing else, reboot and check for error messages.

You may want to take a look at this too http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dis … ay_on_tty1

Re: [Arch 64 bit] Powernow-k8 not loading at boot, loads fine afterwards

A quite typical configuration would be:

- only powernow-k8 among MODULES
- possibly cpufreq among DAEMONS

That way you load the necessary module and let the daemon automatically set governor. Adjust /etc/conf.d/cpufreq to correctly correspond to min and max for you CPU, probably min 1GHz and max 2.2GHz.

Re: [Arch 64 bit] Powernow-k8 not loading at boot, loads fine afterwards

Hello and thanks for the help.

I cleared the modules array and add cpufreq to the deamons.

The wiki is a little bit confused to read, i understood that acpi_cpufreq and powernow-k* will both.
