Hello all,
I'm having a problem getting pcmanfm to recognise my external HD in the left panel, although it can be mounted manually. Upon searching this forum and the wiki to find a solution all I have managed to do is confuse myself.
Any help is appreciated.

Are you launching your window manager in your .xinitrc file using ck-launch-session ?? e.g.:
exec ck-launch-session fluxbox
Also do you have hal running or not?

Yes hal is in my daemons array and in .xinitrc I use:
exec openbox-session
I'll try running it with ck-launch-session.

The pcmanfm in Arch currently uses gvfs/gnome-disk-utility for mounting. I'd suggest either install pcmanfm-0.5.2 which uses HAL directly, or a git version of pcmanfm which uses udisks directly. In either case though, you'll need ck-launch-session.

you need exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch openbox in .xinitrc.

I've used "exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch openbox-session" in .xinitrc.
Still no change. I'll try pcmanfm-git and udisks. Will I have to make any changes to .xinitrc?

Sorted, thank you for the help. Pcmanfm-git and udisks works perfectly.

You also can try installing thunar: it's a good file manager and I saw all through various forums that pcmanfm is often cause of many issues.
