Hi,
I've been using Arch on my laptop for a few years (Slackware convert) and have recently installed it on my desktop (first generation Intel iMac). The graphics card in the iMac is a Radeon Mobility X1600 and I've noticed, according to the ATI section of the Wiki, that this card is no longer supported in the Catalyst drivers. So I'm running using the xf86-video-ati driver but I'm having all kinds of problems. OpenGL runs extremely slowly and I've had numerous occasions where X has crashed because of OpenGL X screensavers or games (Minecraft is the big one I'm playing at the minute).
So, to my question. Can I install an older version of Catalyst that supports my graphics card and use fglrx or do I have to just stick with the open source drivers?
Cheers.

You can check http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI … positories it yourself :-)

Cool. I'll check it out. Is there any way I can find out what the last version was to support my graphics card?

Radeon (the opensource driver or xf86-video-ati), is probably better for your card. You can check it out yourself.

I downloaded catalyst-10.8-2-i686.pkg.tar.xz from the archive and tried to install using "sudo pacman -U catalyst-10.8-2-i686.pkg.tar.xz" but it came back with this error...
error: failed retrieving file 'kernel26-headers-2.6.35.4-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz' from mirrors.dotsrc.org : Not Found
I tried uncommenting a few more mirrors in the mirror list but they all reported this error. Is there any way around this?

Oh sorry, I missed it.
Edit: some logs would be helpful.

These are old headers. Do you have you system and package db up to date? Run 'pacman -Syy' and try again.
If you need that particular version on the other hand, click here to download.

With X1600 you CAN'T use catalyst, AMD has dropped support for X1xxx and older cards.
