Re: I am only able to log in in failsave mode (kde)

Hello,

I do have the same problem. Sadly I can't give the logs as I've restarted too often and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old ist overwritten. From what I remember X crashes with signal 11, caused by something in libdri2.
If nobody else does I will try to get a backtrace anytime tomorrow.

Regards,
Chris

Same here. Fresh install of x86_64 with KDE 4.5. Failsafe mode starts but normal KDE gives:

From /usr/bin/startkde:

KDE_FAILSAFE=1 # General failsafe flag
KWIN_COMPOSE=N # Disable KWin's compositing

Re: I am only able to log in in failsave mode (kde)

With latest packages from [testing] (intel-dri-7.8.2-3, libgl-7.8.2-3, mesa-7.8.2-3) X does no longer crash, but I get a flickering screen that makes KDE completely unusable.

Chris

I had the same problem on a desktop with intel G45 graphics. I rebuilt xf86-video-intel by reintroducing the patch to disable pageflipping and that solved the problem. What graphics platform do you have?

I have exactly same problem here when running gnome-shell (actually both the problems that were mentioned here).
I have GMA965/X3100 graphic card. What patch were you talking about (is it already in the package in the testing repo?)?

Actually, you may use the PKGBUILD in [extra] to rebuild the package:

http://repos.archlinux.org/wsvn/package … ra-x86_64/

Just download all the files in there and run makepkg, which will automatically apply the patch (named intel-2.11-no-pageflipping.patch). You may want to edit PKGBUILD to bump pkgrel to 2 or 3. I think you also need the package xorg-server-devel from [testing] to build the package.

Thanks, now I can use gnome-shell, again.

Re: I am only able to log in in failsave mode (kde)

for some reason I'm getting the same issue.  Can't login to KDE with compositing on.  If I login using failsafe, then restart X with compositing on, it works.  Doesn't work when I login directly at boot with compositing on.  not sure what is happening here.

thoughts?
