hibernation fails on T41

I use pm-utils, but any attempt at hibernation ends in the same manner: screen goes blank after a while and comes back again as though nothing has happened. pm-suspend.log tells me

toad@archtop 1001\5 /home/toad > cat /var/log/pm-suspend.log
Module /etc/laptop-mode/modules/* is not executable.

/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/01laptop-mode thaw hibernate: success.

/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/00logging thaw hibernate: success.

/etc/laptop-mode/modules/ is empty.

I am surprised it does not list any of my own hooks in /etc/pm/sleep.d - feeling a little lost here as it used to work ages ago.

Re: hibernation fails on T41

Though my laptop does resume, I can confirm that there is something buggy with the laptop-mode hook in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/ (installed by the laptop-mode-tools package). My pm-suspend.log shows the same last few lines as yours, but it begins with the line "Command failed", followed by a large chunk of binary data. I can confirm also that none of my own hooks are run when laptop-mode-tools is installed.

When I disabled the script with "touch /etc/pm/sleep.d/99laptop-mode", pm-suspend.log looks normal and all my hooks are run.

I'll have to dig a little deeper and see if something is amiss with my laptop-mode-tools config or whether it's the fault of the default laptop-mode hook.

Re: hibernation fails on T41

Ditto, the log looks better but the behaviour has not changed after disabling the laptop-mode hook.

Re: hibernation fails on T41

On further investigation, it seems that pm-suspend is not running my custom hooks in /etc/pm/sleep.d/. Can you confirm whether your log shows a record of your /etc/pm hooks being run.

Re: hibernation fails on T41

As it stands, no. Only by disabling the laptop mode (/etc/pm/sleep.d/99laptop-mode) do my custom hooks appear in the log (as linked above).
