After upgrading to kernel26 2.6.35.6-1, running virtualbox crashes my system. I had to downgrade to kernel26 2.6.35.5-1.
Edit: There is no longer any problem with virtualbox after an upgrade to kernel26 2.6.35.7-1

Me too Did you file a bug report?

did you recompile the modules and reload them?
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Yep. Seems to be a problem with virtualization in general. Vmware workstation 7.1.1 won't start as well. No crash but it hangs while loading the kernel modules...

I'm also having an issue with it. I had to downgrade to kernel26 2.6.35.5-1 and then recompile the VirtualBox modules to get it working again.
Before downgrading I also recompiled the modules and rebooted, so they should have reloaded.

Sounds like bug report material...

I just reported it. https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/20972
This is my first bug report so please let me know if there's anything I should add.

Strange, works fine here. (using the binary-only version)

Excuse my poor English.

Confirmed. Right after trying to start a virtual machine, the system freezes and reboots immediately.
Reverting to 2.6.35.4 solves the problem.
(Arch x86_64 and virtualbox_bin 3.2.8)

Same here. It just freezes the entire system.
EDIT: I was almost convinced that my .vdi was corrupt, and was about to delete it
EDIT2: Downgraded. Works fine on 2.6.35.5

I also had the same issue with virtualbox and vmware see my post about vmware https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 84#p832184 glad to know i'm not the only person this is happening to lol.

Is it an issue only with x86_64 users on Intel CPUs? I'm running a Core2Quad Q6600 on x86_64.

I've found a bug in our kernel26-headers-2.6.35.6-1-x86_64 package, and sent mail to it's maintainer.
When it will be fixed - catalyst, virtualbox and vmware modules should work fine.

@ViOLO: Hey, I am using Catalyst, and the driver didn't break after the upgrade. Is it happening to everyone, or just a few people with specific cards?
I am using standard Xorg (I don't get the maximize glitches), and Catalyst from your repo. Running Arch 64.

it's because catalyst from repo was built on previous kernel26 version (2.6.35.5), and it's just working
btw vbox modules built on 2.6.35.6-2 version of kernel26 and kernel26-headers (which are atm in [testing]) works fine

I had some Virtualbox issues with this update too, dunno if its related or not.
I run an Arch guest with Virtualbox (Windows host) and my sound stopped working with 2.6.35.6-1, had to downgrade to 2.6.35.5-1.

Worked fine for me after I recompiled the module.

@ Vi0L0 do you know when issues will be fixed with virtualbox/vmware so we can update to latest kernel

Works fine for me after installing kernel 2.6.35.7-1 and rebuilding the vbox* modules

Yesterday I observed this crash. This morning I updated to:
kernel26 2.6.35.7-1
kernel26-headers 2.6.35.7-1
recompiled the module via "/etc/rc.d/rc.vboxdrv setup" and everything seems to work fine (nothing was hosed in virtual XP box either).
