X fails to start, dell 1545

Hi there!

OK, I should start by saying I'm almost a complete noob to arch, but not to Linux. I've used Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Puppy, DSL... You get the picture smile

However, I'm stumped. I followed the directions in the arch wiki to install gnome. However, whenever I execute gdm, startx or xinit, I get a blank screen. I don't have an xorg.conf, or even a /etc/X11 folder, which might be a problem, but I'd assume that it would generate a generic config file on the first run.

I'm using a dell 1545 laptop with an intel GM4500HD graphics chip.

Re: X fails to start, dell 1545

Do you ever get an error reading "can not retrieve file" when downloading from the selected mirror(s)?

I believe that if a mirror is down and you can't retrieve an important package from that mirror, the download might not install correctly.

If you can't download you won't install at all.
