I have been using Creative Live! Cam Optia Pro Webcam on Windows XP without any problem, but my Arch Linux machine won't recognize it. I am new to Linux world and have limited knowledge so can't figure out the reason. I installed latest drivers, but had no success. Can anyone help me to make my webcam work perfectly on Arch Linux machine? I really appreciate any assistance you experts can provide.
Thanks..

1. Are you using Hal?
2. Try to install v4l-utils.
3. Try give permission to the /dev/video and /dev/video0
Good luck!

What are you using the webcam with? I can see my webcam's output with "mplayer tv://".
I'm not in any special group, but there are some Video4Linux modules running, which I never explicitly configured.

I'm the type to fling myself headlong through the magical wardrobe, and then incinerate the ornate mahogany portal behind me with a Molotov cocktail.

You may try the camera that with "cheese" (a GNOME app which usually just works at me). Maybe add your user to group "camera", too.
