system-config-printer and MP520 not playing nice together on Arch64

I have a few different issues on this same front.

when attemping to install via usb port in s-c-p's "wizard", I get stopped with the error: client-error-not-possible

all other methods (hal-detected option after installing hal-cups-utils and restarting hal as well as serial port #1 options) allow the install to go through, but the printer doesn't actually print.  CUPS shows the job as being done, but no paper has shifted and no parts have yet moved on my printer... I literally turn all other sounds off and listen to the printer to make sure it's trying to work and I get nothing...

I know the printer is functioning on some level, because xsane scans for me just fine (printer makes noise and everything! ) so I'm lost as to what I could be missing on this particular front...  Any help is welcome...
