patch for Toshiba nb305 controlling fn screen brightness
kernel patch is available here:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=27236
it works and it is safe (tested) against: 2.6.34.x 2.6.35.x and zen (remember to backup drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915_opregion.c if using git)

yes, it suits the purpose: photo editing while on the trip (good battery life).
I had to customize a lot of things. This did not take much time but with Toshiba you are on your own as most users have Acer netbooks or AOpen and there is Arch wiki help for these, while Toshiba netbook does not have wiki entry.
The only thing that does not work is suspend to RAM (kernel unable to handle dynamic CPU settings in BIOS), however suspend to disk works very well and system wakes up in less that 5s so I do not miss suspend to RAM very much.
