I have the same problem. Can you make a bug report?

Hi,
I started having the same issue but mine started Monday after a system update (-Syu) with the new kernel 2.6.35.7. It continues to happen after the update yesterday that updated KDE to 4.5.2. I did some research on bugs.kde.org and there is a bug report #248636. I added what I could to the report but have not heard anything back. They can't seem to be able to reproduce the problem.
I'm about to the point of un-installing all of KDE and re-installing.

I can confirm those crashes. This problem started when i came back to kde 4.5.2 from gnome. When i used 4.5.1 there was no such problems. Reinstalling kde doesnt help, also removing .kde4 doesnt help. In fact it happens quite often when i want to log out.

Hello
I can confirm this bug. I have it too. I opened the task in Bugs (https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/21101).
I have new installation of Archlinux with KDE.

Question-
I noticed when KDE 4.5.2 was installed, it issued a message that a new kdmrc file was downloaded: /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc.pacnew. Is this new version necessary now? There are tons of new(?) options and a new section when compared to my existing kdmrc file. Is this file used by polkit-kde?
Just wondering?

Me too.

Probably no because I deleted old kdmrc and used kdmrc.pacnew as kdmrc. But problem still exist.

Maybe there are tons of new comments because original kdmrc has lots of comments. However if you use 'System Settings -> Login Screen' and you apply changes then kdmrc will strip comments(and maybe unnecessary options).

I was looking around in my /var/logs/daemons.log and found these messages:
Oct 6 14:51:20 localhost polkitd[3172]: started daemon version 0.98 using authority implementation `local' version `0.98'
Oct 6 14:52:21 localhost kdm_greet[3525]: Cannot load /usr/share/apps/kdm/faces/.default.face: No such file or directory
Any idea if this is triggering the segfaults?

I just did a system update (pacman -Syu), got the new packages and it looks to be working here too.
Thanks!
