[SOLVED] Blur effect not working after upgrade to KDE 4.5.2

Hi,

The blur effect inside windows when I use a transparent theme (i.e., oxygen-transparent-svn, bespin & qtcurve) seems to have disappeared in KDE 4.5.2. The blur effect is still working inside plasma panel and popups, though.

In the KDE Changelog I could see this bullet point pertaining to blur:

• Exclude all transformed windows from Blur effect, fixes rendering issues with e.g. Magic Lamp effect. Fixes bug 243693. See SVN commit 1169158.

Which ideally shouldn't affect windows when I'm not resizing or moving them (unless static windows have a transformation I'm not aware of).

My graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS/PCI/SSE2, and it does support GL_ARB_fragment_program as per glxinfo. In any case, blur worked perfectly for me in 4.5.1.

I have so far tried the following:

1. Disabled and reenabled blur

2. Disabled blur, disabled functionality checks in desktop effects and reenabled blur

3. Reinstalled oxygen-transparent-svn from svn

4. Tried reverting back to 4.5.1

None of which restored the blur. Can someone give me any pointers on how to proceed from here?

First of all, file a new bug on bugs.kde.org or add a comment to this report:

What effects have you got turned on?

"Glide" effect seems to trigger your bug. "Scale in" effect does not exhibit this behaviour.
Check all effects if Glide is not the culprit.

I do have "Glide" effect turned on... will try disabling it (later when I get home).

So were you able to replicate this issue? I wasn't entirely sure whether this was a defect or something wrong with my setup - my brief googling seemed to indicate no one else had had this issue.

Yes, I could replicate it with glide on.

Without this effect, everything works as expected (and a bit smoother:).

I tried without glide and blur works as expected. And now I have no glide

Update: This is apparently a bug in the glide effect which leaves the window permanently in "transformed" state. Hence blur started excluding the windows after svn commit 1169158.
