Hi, i'm using kde/fluxbox on my laptop. When i insert a usb pen drive the kde system reads it and notifies me correctly about it's insertion. I can mount, unmount and go through it without problems.
When i insert a cd/dvd instead, i get no notification whatsoever.
If i put the cd in at boot time, then on login, the cd shows. If then i take out the cd it still shows on kde's device manager.
Anyone know what is happening?
EDIT: i can normally burn cd/dvd with k3b even if the cd device doesn't show in kde's device manager.

Hello
I think you need to enable hal pooling on your cdrom drive. Read `man hal-disable-polling` for more information about it.
Please give us the output of the following command (as root) :
> hal-disable-polling --enable-polling --device /dev/cdrom
(replace /dev/cdrom with the path to your drive)
Cheers

hal-disable-polling --enable-polling --device /dev/cdrom
Following symlink from /dev/cdrom to /dev/sr0.
Polling for drive /dev/cdrom have been enabled. The fdi file deleted was
/etc/hal/fdi/information/media-check-disable-storage_model_DVD_A__DS8A2S.fdi
and then giving the same command i get:
hal-disable-polling --enable-polling --device /dev/cdrom
Following symlink from /dev/cdrom to /dev/sr0.
Polling is already enabled on the given drive.
and the same for all other cd devices listed.

Okay, it should work now, does it ?

Now i have to give the above command every time the computer starts up if i want to enable the notifications and the possibility to mount.
EDIT: looks like the issue is solved now. I had to recreate the file under "/etc/hal/fdi/information/media-check-disable-storage_model_DVD_A__DS8A2S.fdi" and now the cd's i insert pop up automatically.
Thanks
