Well, I still got a few problems when using VBoxGuestAdditions_3.2.9-66155.iso in Arch Linux. The following error says failed to load kernel module "vboxvideo".
[ 46.910] [drm] failed to load kernel module "vboxvideo" [ 46.910] (EE) [drm] drmOpen failed. [ 46.910] (EE) VBoxVideo(0): DRIScreenInit failed, disabling DRI.
However, in the previous output, I can see the vboxvideo module has already been loaded.
[ 46.249] (II) LoadModule: "vboxvideo" [ 46.250] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vboxvideo_drv.so [ 46.266] (II) Module vboxvideo: vendor="Oracle Corporation" [ 46.266] compiled for 1.5.99.901, module version = 1.0.1 [ 46.266] Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 46.266] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 8.0 [ 46.266] (**) Load address of symbol "VBOXVIDEO" is 0xb74b7060
I can still startx, but when I drag the window around, I can see the window flickering.
when I run lsmod :
lsmod | grep vbox vboxsf 31332 0 vboxguest 115335 7 vboxsf
Should I also see vboxvideo in this list?
same error here. couldn't get compiz work, glxinfo | grep openGL gives me:
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project
OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.8.3
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20

Virtualbox 3.2.10 has been released, the release notes says bug 7306 (supporting xorg 1.9) is fixed. Am downloading now, should work fine.

installed 3.2.10. no luck, still shows "OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer"

Hmm, I just gave it a test spin (the machine is back on the Arch partition right now running some of my research load), it certainly gave me back my full resolution (800x600 annoys me). Never play 3d-accelerated games on the VM, so don't know about that.

I am running Arch as a guest on VB 3.2.10 Windows host.
I was hoping that vboxvideo would be hardware accelerated now with 3.2.10 but it still fall backs to software :
[ 1699.635] (EE) AIGLX error: Calling driver entry point failed
[ 1699.781] (EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering
Shouldnt graphics be accelerated with 3.2.10 ?

yeah, full screen works. It's just 3D hardware acceleration fails.

hi, I'm using vbox 3.2.10 PUEL version from AUR - archlinux x86_64 host / archlinux i686 guest
reading this http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/7572 it seems that vboxvideo.ko doesn't get built at all by the installer.
I've managed to build it by first installing guest additions normally and then, as root:
# cd /opt/VBoxGuestAdditions-3.2.10/src/vboxguest-3.2.10/vboxvideo/
# make; make install
the hints in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vir … nux_guests still apply (first symlink is created by the installer, while the second is not -- and it is still needed)
this is the output of glxinfo BEFORE manually building the module:
$ glxinfo | grep vendor
server glx vendor string: SGI
client glx vendor string: Mesa Project and SGI
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project
and this is the output AFTER manually building the module:
$ glxinfo | grep vendor
server glx vendor string: Chromium
client glx vendor string: Chromium
OpenGL vendor string: Humper
successfully working with xorg 1.9.0.901

lorim,
I also get the Chromium/Humper vendor strings but it still revert to software mode.
Can you check if also get the AIGLX errors in xorg log ?
I am running archlinux guest on Windows host.

I also got the Chromium GLX Renderer. But compiz still fails, it shows
OpenGL Warning: No pincher, please call crStateSetCurrentPointers() in your SPU
