Hi there,
I am currently building an HTPC, thus I am looking for a decent sound card that puts my FLAC files to to the amp in reasonable quality.
This card must of course be supported by the mainline kernel, prefferably by LTS (2.6.32).
The connection should be PCI-E or USB.
Any suggestions?

ASUS Xonar DX is PCI-E. http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/showp … oduct/4489
If you're just playing and not creating music you shouldn't worry too much. Any size (small form factor etc.) or cost limits?

Thanks for your reply. The form factor is not important but the price should be below 80 Euros.
As you sad, for a nice playback only, I don't need a high-end-studio-model. But at the moment I do hear a huge difference from onboard to a burned CD.

In my opinion M-Audio builds the best value for money soundcards in the world, and their Linux support is traditionally very good.

I haven't lost my mind; I have a tape back-up somewhere.

I have a Xonar Essence STX myself. But the Xonar DX mentioned above would suit your needs very well.
As for M-Audio, I checked their site, they don't seem to have any PCI-E cards, just PCI?

I have one PCI-Slot on my board and it is not used yet. I would have preferred PCIe because I have more slots for them. The M-Audio looks quite nice and is focused on stereo. Thats nice as I have a pure stereo equipment.
So I just have to choose between M-Audio and an Asus Xonar model.
