Try "pacman -S kdebase kdebase-workspace xf86-input-synaptics xf86-input-mouse"

I already had those packages, reinstalled and no improvement.
Temporarly i have installed GNOME where GDM starting OK but i'm usung GNOME, no KDE. KDEMOD will soon be closed and "normal" KDE is not working properly.
Temp. because i'm making backup and i'm going to install other distro than Arch.
Arch since:

I dis the same as you some time ago, i.e. switched from kdemod to arch kde...I ran the command
pacman -R kde-meta
to solve my problems. When I tried to simply install kde I ran into a plethora of problems. Also make absolutely sure that you have no kdemod packages lyinga around before you do the update, run
pacman -Q | grep kdemod
and uninstall all packages. Also least but not last, make sure you are not in the kde desktop enviroment when you run these commands. Hope this helps.
