I installed KDE on my Arch. It works well so far, except for some annoying problems:
1. On the start menu, none of the buttons in the Leave tab work. I'm talking about Shutdown, Reboot, Log out etc. None of these work for some reason. I am having to run 'sudo shutdown -h now'
2. Every time I boot up it reloads Firefox and Rhythmbox. How can I make it not do that?
3. I'm using KMess. When I click to maximize it, it starts acting really slow, but when it doesn't occupy the full window it works well. How can I fix that?
I think these are it, so far. Thank you all for the help.

Are you using KDM, the KDE Display Manager, to login? I don't think those buttons will work if you're not using KDM.
If you are using KDM and they still don't work, try it again with a fresh and clean set of KDE ".config" files.

2. Go to system settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Session managment -> Always start new session (Doesn't load apps that were on when you shutdown your computer last time.
Or if you have for some reason put those on startup, it's in the first tab.

Another solution to 1): Go to system setting > power management > edit profiles > choose your profile; probably performance, and click on the actions tab. Then set that pressing the power button will shutdown your computer. And now you don't need to use GUI ever again!
2) It's probably the fact that you use shutdown -h now and the Firefox and Rythmbox are still loaded in your system. And you solve it as previously mentioned. But if you're like me, I'd recommend you to when you "start new session for the first time, you load thinngs like KMail, Kopete and Akregator and then set back to restore previous session. Also you'll notice that among the options there is applications to be excluded from sessions. Just add Firefox and Rythmbox and it should probably work.
3) Sorry i don't use Kmess

Whatever I do, I always end up with something horribly mis-configured.

The power buttons not working is a bug (or a misconfiguration) I believe.
There are several posts (including one of mine) describing this problem.
In my case it started after I did an upgrade of KDE and I have been unable to find a solution anywhere (including the one suggested here of removing the .config directory). I continue to investigate the problem but so far I have not been able to fix it.
I'll post if I find a solution.

Where do I find these? Yes, I am using KDM. It's being started by inittab.

Try to start KDM as daemon.

I was using it as such, and had this problem. Someone instructed me to change it to inittab, and the problem was not solved. should I switch back to daemon mode?
