Problem when launching gedit

Gedit immediately crashes on startup and the only thing I get from the terminal is

Gtk:ERROR:gtkrecentmanager.c:1942:get_icon_fallback: assertion failed: (retval != NULL)
aborted

Any help would be appreciated.

No idea... googling found the following but it's not in English - dunno if it's relevant or not.  You could run it through google translator.
