The handbook's version 2.0, just FYI. Anyway, afaik, Dusty's loosing lots of money making stuff for Arch, so I think it's fair if he got any of it back at some point. Although I doubt it will happen.

It depends where you buy it from. I paid $40 up front, so I have to earn that money back first. For each book sold via the estore linked above, I make $6.74. If you purchase it from Amazon.com, I make $4.27. If you buy it through one of the international Amazon stores, or through any other bookseller, I make $1.80. Most sales are through Amazon and international Amazon stores, so I probably average about $3.00 per copy.

From the income generated from handbooks and schwag sales, I donate about $1000 per year to the Aaron Griffin Pizza and Beer Fund (AKA Arch Linux Donations).

Nothing. It's just the Arch Linux Beginner's guide from the wiki, word for word. I spent a lot of time on style editing and layout and stuff to get it into handbook form, but didn't edit the content in any way.

Careful! That's what Branko said when he saw it, and he got roped into doing the new one. :-D I'm not shy about declaring that I'm very weak when it comes to visual design. The Arch Handbook 1.0 cover was the culmination of about 1 hour's work in the gimp. I didn't expect it to find it's way to as many bookshelves as it did, so I didn't put much effort into it.

If you're looking to write a tech book, Packt have a few hot topics they're looking for authors on: http://authors.packtpub.com/ Writing for Packt is a grueling process with tight deadlines. It's kind of like having to write a term paper every two weeks. If you have a day job, I wouldn't recommend it.

You just have to register a new account if you don't have an existing one and buy either with a credit card or paypal

I buy the first edition and it was very helpful ^^ and definitely i`ll buy this one to. BTW the cover is great!!!!

So basically is better for you if we buy it from createspace.... I`ll do that.

Funny, I was just about to say the same thing.

Guess it must be our *location* that determines from which Amazon we buy.

Will try this Createspace site though to see its feasibility.

I guess so. Since amazon.co.uk ships for free to the netherlands from 25 pound and up, it gets much more rendable to buy there.

Don't know about that createspace site.

But why the "pacman -Sy [package name]" recommendation? I've broken things that way a few times. At least if the package is out of date a "pacman -S [package name]" won't break anything.

Dusty: Have you considered offering a download of some sort, preferably a PDF? I know that it's the same content as the Beginner's Guide, but I would find a PDF useful and I would imagine that a layout-edited PDF in book form would probably be better than an automatic wiki->PDF conversion done by a script of some sort.
