New Server quick setup

Right now I have a headless home server setup on a old P4 (LAMP + Minecraft server with DyDNS nothing really fancy). Well someone wants to donate a decent HP to me so that we can have more people playing with the hardware lagging out (CPU Usage spikes). What is the best way at (Cloning?) the old P4 to the new computer. These computer will share no hardware similarities but hopefully I can do a (cp /*) or a (dd=/dev/sda2) however the second one works? If anyone has any advice how to do this as quickly as possible. I am not completely against reinstalling it just seems like an unneeded hassle.

I haven't used it myself, so can't comment on it's effectiveness.
I have had good success swapping the HDD with working Archlinux OS into different hardware such as from an AMD to an Intel system. I have not taken the OS off one HDD to put back on another in a different machine, so I can't help any further for now..
